How Long Does It Take for a Suppository to Work?

After inserting a hemorrhoid suppository, sit or lie down for between 10-20 minutes to allow the suppository to dissolve for best results1. Use after each bowel movement and whenever symptoms occur to aid with the treatment of hemorrhoids.

Directions for adults: Remove suppository from foil wrapper. Insert one suppository into the rectum in the morning, at night, after each bowel movement and whenever symptoms occur.

How to insert a suppository:2

  1. Wash your hands before and after. Try to empty your bowel and bladder just before inserting suppository.
  2. Remove the outer wrapper from the suppository before inserting it. Avoid handling the suppository too long or it will melt in your hands.
  3. Once ready, either stand with your foot on a chair or the bath tub or lie on your side with your lower leg straightened out and your upper leg bent forward toward your stomach. Lift upper buttock to expose the anal area.
  4. Carefully insert the suppository, pointed end first, with your finger until it passes the muscular sphincter of the rectum (about 1 inch in adults). This should not be painful.
  5. For best results from the suppository, lie down or sit still for 10 minutes afterwards to allow the suppository to dissolve.

Caution: If the condition persists or in case of bleeding, a physician should be consulted. Keep safely out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature (15°-30°C).

Contains: Yeast as a live cell derivative (Bio-Dyne: Skin Respiratory Factor) 22.0 mg. Non-medicinal Ingredients: Chlorhexidine gluconate, cocoa butter, glycerin, polyethylene glycol, water, wax, witepsol.
